Inference Claims as Assertions

چکیده
When a speaker states an argument in arguing—in its core sense—for the conclusion, asserts, as opposed to merely implies or implicates, associated inference claim effect that conclusion follows from premises. In defense of this, I argue how is conveyed when stating constrained by constitutive and normative conditions for cases speech arguing conclusion. The act assertion better reflects such than does implication, conversational implicature, conventional implicature.

Methods as Assertions
A method definition can be viewed as a logical assertion.Wheneverwe declare a method as the implementation of an operation, we assert that if the operation is invoked on objects of the appropriate types then the method body will satisfy the specificationof the operation. This view of methods as assertions is simple but general. Among its applications are: methods defined on interfaces as well a...
متن کاملClasses as Assertions
How do we formally specify the relation between a base class and a derived class? This question has two parts, a syntactic one, and a semantic one. The syntactic part is of course the easier of the two and the answer to that part is the standard contra/covariance requirement on the arguments and result of any base class method redefined in the derived class. Our concern in the current paper is ...
متن کاملQualitative Assertions as Prescriptive Statements
The primary question regarding prescriptive appropriateness is a difficult one to answer for the qualitative researcher. While there are certainly qualitative researchers who have offered prescriptive protocols to better define and describe the terrain of qualitative research design and there are qualitative researchers who offer research conclusions that might be considered prescriptive by the...
متن کاملSubset Assertions and Negation As Failure
Subset assertions provide a declarative and natural means for expressing solutions to many problems involving sets. This paper is motivated by the use of subset assertions for formulating transitive closures and solving containment constraints in applications of graph traversal and program analysis. In these applications , circular containment constraints may arise, for which we propose an oper...
متن کاملLazy Assertions
Assertions test expected properties of run-time values without dissrupting the normal working of a program. So in a lazy functional language assertions should be lazy — not forcing evaluation, but only examining what is evaluated by other parts of the program. We describe two different ways of embedding lazy assertions in Haskell, one sequential and the other concurrent. Examples illustrate the...
